Greek
Myrtle

Myrtos may well get its name from the myrtle, a bushy shrub with small aromatic leaves which is found almost everywhere in Greece.

The ancient Greeks wore wreathes of myrtle leaves at various sacrificial ceremonies. The plant, which was dedicated to the goddess Aphrodite, was a symbol of chastity.

It is also used in perfumes and herbal remedies.
