Ivy Ivy (kissos) was known in Greece from Homer's time was called "Dionysius," because it was dedicated to the god Dionysus. The ancient Greeks were crowned with ivy, the statues of Dionysus, poets and drinkers because they considered him a symbol of immortality and antidote for a hangover from drunkenness.
